The mission of the Senior Center is to enhance
the quality of life for senior residents of Murfreesboro and Rutherford
County with caring and compassionate commitment. As a focal point, the
Senior Center will provide activities that promote fellowship; encourage
involvement within the community; enrich artistic and social
development; promote physical well being and dignity; and maintain an
atmosphere that allow application of their wisdom, experience and
insight.
The St. Clair Street Senior Center offers a
variety of services and
activities for individuals age 60 and
over. With caring and compassionate commitment, the center staff is
dedicated to the goal of enhancing the quality of life through prompt,
efficient and courteous service to senior adults, their families and
caregivers.
Active seniors are offered recreational
opportunities; the national aw
ard-winning
Nurse on Duty program provides health and wellness services; day trips
are scheduled; and, extended trips for the more adventurous. Also
scheduled are educational programs of particular interest to seniors on
an assortment of topics, craft classes, physical fitness and health
screening activities, and volunteer opportunities in the senior center.
Adult day-care services are also offered.
The Senior Center coordinates services with
many community agencies. Mid-Cumberland Human Resource Agency Elderly
Nutrition Program serves hot meals in the center and delivers homebound
meals Monday through Friday.
The Senior Center Commission serves in an
advisory capacity to the City Council for senior services of the Senior
Center and the community. The Center Director oversees the
day-to-day operation of the Senior Center, and stays abreast of current
senior trends, legislation for senior programs, and resources for
seniors on local, state, and federal levels.
The Program Directors are responsible for
planning, implementing, publicizing, and evaluating a well-rounded
assortment of programs and activities to appeal to a variety of tastes.
The Care Director works specifically with
seniors to coordinate additional services that are offered throughout
the community to enable the senior to live independently for as long as
it is safely possible. Many more services available including telephone
reassurance and visitation program for shut-ins.
The Caregiver Resource and Education
Coordinator offers the care givers valuable resource tools to help cope
with the continual task of care-giving responsibilities.
The Nurse on Duty (NOD) program is directed by
a Registered Nurse. The NOD is designed as a wellness station for
prevention and health. Clinic days, foot care, support groups,
nutrition assessment, medication consultation, and health education are
included in the many services of the NOD program.
The Senior Center is open weekdays 8 a.m. to
4:30 p.m., Saturdays 12:30 to 3:30 p.m., and special occasions. For
